About UMBRUMA

I’m the designer and maker behind Umbruma, Mateo Della Bruna

Welcome to my Atelier.

Umbruma is an independent crochet studio based in Sitges, Spain.

For the past five years, I’ve been exploring crochet as a way to transform biodegradable fibers, sourced directly from Spanish and European producers, into unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. Each creation is designed slowly, stitch by stitch, blending tradition with contemporary influences.

Sustainability

Umbruma is built around materials that return to nature. Every piece is crocheted using biodegradable fibers such as wool, merino, mohair, alpaca, cotton, and linen, chosen for their quality, durability, and natural origin.

Most yarns are sourced directly from Spanish shepherds, small producers, and independent dyers, with others discovered through European fiber festivals and trusted mills. Whenever possible, the path of the fiber, from flock or field to finished yarn, is known and shared.

Because natural fibers follow seasonal cycles, availability is never completely predictable. New pieces are created in rhythm with what the land and producers provide, embracing small batches and thoughtful material use.

Studio Journal

An ongoing record of materials, experiments, and evolving designs. Here I share what’s currently in progress: new fibers I’m working with, silhouettes taking shape, and ideas still on the hook.

It’s a closer look at the process behind each piece, from first concept to finished garment, along with the latest stories from the atelier.
