Umbruma was born from my hands and from everything that has shaped the way I see the world.

I’m a 30-year-old independent crochet designer based in Spain, and for the past six years crochet has been my language. What began as curiosity became discipline, then vision. Today, Umbruma is a one person project built around three pillars: sustainability, traceability, and design.

Every piece you see here is handmade by me, stitch by stitch, using only biodegradable fibers. I design, source, crochet, photograph, prepare, and ship everything myself. There is no production team behind this brand, only my atelier, my tools, and the time each piece requires.

I personally source my yarns from local Spanish producers and shepherds, some of whom oversee the full journey from raw fleece to finished yarn. I also work with French and Italian producers I’ve met at yarn festivals across Spain. Alongside them, I collaborate with talented local dyers who work with regional wool and sustainable dyes in thoughtful, small-scale ways. I work primarily with protein fibers such as wool, alpaca, merino, mohair, recycled silks and yak, as well as vegetable fibers like cotton, linen, hemp, and nettle. I purchase yarn already spun and dyed by trusted producers, but experimentation is part of my practice. In my atelier, I explore spinning and natural vegetable dyeing to better understand how fibers behave and transform. That knowledge transcribed in every stitch.

Working this way means following the rhythm of nature. Fibers depend on shearing cycles, seasons, and agricultural processes. I design within those limits rather than against them.
