130g — Wooldreamers, Castilla-La Mancha (light green)
This yarn is a double-stranded, twist-free, 100% Manchega wool, soft, fluffy, and unspun, made by Wooldreamers, the family mill founded by Ramón, entirely in Castilla-La Mancha. The Manchega sheep has been raised in this region for centuries, primarily for milk, and the famed Manchego cheese. Its wool was, for decades, treated as a waste byproduct. This yarn was created to try and change that, giving the fleece its own value. Both the flocks and the entire yarn-making process are based in Castilla-La Mancha, with wool gathered from several local shepherds, including a transhumant flock of Manchega sheep and a rare flock of black Manchega sheep currently at risk of extinction.
100g — El Robledal de la Santa, deep forest green: 50% Mohair + 40% White Merino + 10% Black Merino
This yarn gives Viride its deep, saturated green and its softness. The mohair comes from the angora goats of El Robledal de la Santa, a small farm in Santa María de las Lomas, Cáceres, run by David and Jackson, who care for around 30 goats by hand, among them Charlotte, Columba, Colette, Geraldine, Harriet, Valerie, Betty, Dylan, Meghan, Chloe, Grace, Pembroke, Ernest, Diana, Katya, Amanda, Stewart, Connor, Gilberta, Marlene, Miss Vanjie, Rosemary, Thurston and Frederick. The white and black merino come from Ganadería La Huertona in León, the same flock that runs through several pieces in this collection. Both flocks are raised under extensive, biodiversity-friendly farming systems that prioritise animal welfare.
